Meeting with Capital Partners

Board members from View the Future met with representatives of Forest Capital Partners to get acquainted, exchange information, and explore ideas for a public information partnership.  Forest Capital Partners are the managers of the property formerly owned by Boise near Yachats.

Discussion items included providing information to the Yachats community about future harvest and spraying plans; community concerns such as the viewshed, wildlife habitat, and water quality; The management transition as Forest Capital Partners takes over Boise 's timberland; the potential for conservation easements or purchase of some part of the property. View the Future members learned that while Forest Capital Partners still plan to harvest the timber on the land south of town, the specific layout and scheduling of future harvest units is being revised.  New harvest options will be available for discussion as the plan develops.  The tone of the discussion was friendly, candid, and relaxed.  Both parties expressed interest in improving the quality of information available to Yachats residents.

It was agreed that another meeting would be scheduled at Forest Capital's Monmouth headquarters in the near future.  After the meeting, Forest Capital Partners representatives toured Yachats to get a better feel for the community and to assess the viewshed from different locations.

View the Future board members expressed appreciation for the open and candid dialogue.  VtF chair Andrea Scharf described the meeting as "very positive".  Also attending the meeting were Nan Scott, Greg Scott , and Sue Smith, mayor of Yachats.
